Treatment overview

How a night guard may help

Bruxism can place repeated pressure on teeth, restorations and jaw muscles. A custom occlusal splint provides a protective surface between the teeth and may help manage wear and muscle tension for suitable patients.

Protect teeth

A splint can reduce direct contact and wear between upper and lower teeth.

Custom fit

The appliance is made from records of your teeth and adjusted to your bite.

Monitor symptoms

Reviews help assess comfort, wear and whether other management is needed.

Signs of grinding or clenching

Jaw pain and headaches can have several causes, so assessment is important before an appliance is recommended.

  • Flattened, chipped or worn tooth edges
  • Cracked teeth or damaged restorations
  • Jaw muscle tightness or morning discomfort
  • Grinding sounds noticed during sleep
  • Tooth sensitivity without an obvious cause

Night guard questions

Night guard and splint FAQs

Helpful answers before you contact our Panania team.

What are signs that I may grind or clench my teeth?

Morning jaw tension, headaches, worn or chipped teeth, tooth sensitivity and tight facial muscles can be associated with grinding or clenching, although some people have no obvious symptoms.

How does a night guard help?

A custom night guard creates a protective surface between the teeth and can reduce direct wear from grinding. It does not remove every cause of clenching, so assessment and ongoing review are important.

How long does a night guard last?

Lifespan varies with grinding force, material and care. Bring your guard to check-ups so we can assess its fit and wear and advise when replacement is needed.
